The purpose of the Pastoral Council is to promote the work of the Gospel by fostering pastoral activity in the faith community of Our Lady Queen of Peace/St. Thomas More cluster. It does so primarily by creating a forum where representatives of the parish can advise and offer assistance to the Pastor/Pastoral Administrator and the pastoral staff in pursuit of the cluster's mission:

1. The life-long faith formation of the parish community and in the evangelization of those who have not yet heard the Gospel.
2. The building up of the larger faith community, the gathering of small communities, the fostering of new ways of helping parishioners share each other's joys, grief and burdens in a Christian setting.
3. The conscious, active participation of the faithful in the worship and sacramental life of the parish and the encouragement of individual, group and family devotional life.
4. The service of the poor, the sick, the afflicted, and the lonely while looking at the larger questions of social justice in the spirit of the Gospel.

The Pastoral Council serves in a consultative capacity to the Pastor/Pastoral Administrator and is governed by the Code of Canon Law of the universal Church, the local church laws established by the Bishop of Rochester, and the laws of the State of New York.
